Pahal Pathshala

Pahal has successfully been running a school in DWARKA since 2013, the ‘Pahal Pathshala'. Children of slum-settlers, labourers and construction workers are provided need-based education, art & craft skills as well as healthy mid-day meals – all for free. The school equips the children to get started and instil both inquisitiveness and a thirst for knowledge. Sports events are held on Children’s Day and Painting competitions are held from time to time to encourage students where all children are awarded.

Since Pahal does not receive any government financial aid, the Pathshala, is totally run with the able support of our Pahal volunteers and through sponsorships and donations from benevolent members of the society.  This takes care of their books, stationery items, dresses, shoes, school bags, tiffin and their daily midday meals as well as the day to day running of the school.

Health Care/Awareness Drives

Regular eye and medical camps are conducted in association with established hospitals where both the young and old benefit. The beneficiaries include the rickshaw-pullers, construction workers, labourers, guards, domestic helps and villagers.

Apart from holding regular Health and Awareness Camps, including Blood Donation and Thalassemia Camps, and the bi-annual distribution of clothes to the needy, Pahal also aims at sensitising domestic helps and under-privileged women about the importance of good personal hygiene and sanitation.

Skill-based Learning

  • Children under the supervision of lady members, are taught to craft decorative diyas which are sold during the festivals of Dussera and Diwali. The profit generated is used to improve the infra-structure of the school and for the free midday meals.

  • Computer classes are conducted during the summer months in the evening hours. Children from the surrounding area avail this opportunity enthusiastically, free of cost.

  • PAHAL is associated with schools in the area where Pahal students attend workshops to build their awareness on different science and environmental projects that helps them in igniting creativity and independent thinking. Workshops are organised with YEF to train the students in candle, jewellery and LED bulb making.

Humanitarian Causes

  • Pahal comes forward to help victims of natural disasters by organising collection centres all over Dwarka, New Delhi and motivating people to donate in cash and kind.

  • Reshmi Niketan, an orphanage with 28 girls, located in Najafgarh is provided regularly with ration and essentials items. Members extend a helping hand to overcome medical expenses whenever the need arises.

  • PAHAL annually has been providing sarees to more than 300 widows at two ‘Maitri-ghar’ shelters at Vrindaban. The annual distribution of sarees is specially eventful as some widows could be convinced to wear coloured sarees.
